BioBelle Primer Face Mask: Prime Time or Past Its Prime?

I received this in a Boxycharm box this month. The whole idea of it warranted its own post. A primer in the form of a face mask? This is either some new age innovation, or a bunch of hullabaloo (that word is so fun to say out loud). Before we find out if this is a gimmick, let’s go over a few quick facts about the brand:

1. Their sheet masks are made from patented Tencel (it’s apparently the pulp of Naturally fallen wood).
2. They’ve received the European Award for the Environment.
3. Their products are suitable for All skin types (no specifics!).

Now let’s see how this baby really works (imagine a baby with a hard hat and business suit on. Bet it makes you smile). This particular mask is $4.99 and shipping is free.

The instructions were pretty simple:

• Apply mask to clean, dry skin.
• Leave mask on for 5 minutes.
• Remove mask and rinse face.
• Apply makeup as normal

After finishing the mask, my skin was noticeably brighter and tighter. A lot of masks already do this, but not many claim to double as a primer. I was really curious about this aspect in particular. 

As it turns out, this is no gimmick! It was actually a successful primer. It made my face very smooth, and if I wet it, I could feel how slick my skin was. This was great, because I thought it was pretty counterintuitive to rinse off a face primer mask, but it worked really well. It works pretty similarly to Benefit Cosmetics primers (specifically the Porefessional one). If you enjoy those primers but don’t enjoy the price tag, this might be an option (though I could see this getting just as expensive since you have to use a mask each time you do your makeup).

Since I absolutely adore face masks, this was perfect for me. I especially want to make masks apart of my normal skincare routine so something like this is doing two jobs in one. It’s soothing and serves an actual purpose! However, if you don’t wear masks regularly, I would suggest sticking to your regular primer. The price of this would add up pretty quickly. It’s wonderful to try, but don’t get it for the Sole purpose of being a primer. You’d break the bank in no time!
