Influenster Daisy VoxBox: Pushing Up Daisies?

So I was given the opportunity Influenster to review some items they sent to me for free. Before we get into what I think of this box, let’s go over a few quick facts about Influenster:

  1. They regularly send out VoxBoxes, items for people to review.
  2. You don’t have to be some huge influencer or beauty guru to get a VoxBox. You just have to download the app and use it pretty frequently.
  3. The app is more than just a way to snag freebies. You can write reviews and ask questions. It’s perfect for when you need an unbiased opinion of something before you buy it.

Now we’ll get to the good stuff, but before we do, I just want to be clear that I am giving my 100% honest opinion on these items. Regardless of how I come into possession of a product, I am always going to be honest. I maintain the right to be authentic at all times. Let’s get to it.

This might be tmi, but foam pads are Not for me. I’ll admit I prefer the foam material for comfort reasons but these are so thin I spent the day running back and forth to the restroom, desperate to prevent a disaster that never happened. I’m more of a stress free period kind of girl. I don’t like feeling like each time could be the straw that breaks the camel’s back.

Do you like feeling like a coconut? I definitely do! You guys know how I feel about shampoos and conditioners. Most of the time they’re not really different from each other. I will say this stuff kept my hair soft and it’s so fragrant it was like a bath bomb for my hair. That’s a win.

I liked these a lot! I’m not one for tummy trouble but it’s so weird. Have you ever done something that you always do in a different way and realized that you’ve been doing it wrong the whole time? That’s what this is like. When I got these I thought “pshh, I don’t need digestive health vitamins”. Boy, was I wrong! Without going into too much detail, let’s just say I’m now also looking into getting a squatty potty because apparently, I had no idea what I was doing for 22 years of my life.

*I feel like a modern art piece

One thing you guys should know is that I love face masks. I really Really love them. That being said, aside from being relaxing, I don’t know that this did anything in particular. My skin was more or less the same. It felt really good though.

OK, what’s better for binge watching Netflix than popcorn? They seriously go hand in hand. I’ve always been a fan of skinny pop. I like that it’s not over salted or covered in greasy butter. It’s a light and fluffy snack that’s easy to shovel into my mouth in the middle of a scary movie. What more could I ask for?

All in all, this was a pretty awesome box. I definitely found some new loves and had a lot of fun testing stuff out. Have you ever heard of Influenster?

BareMinerals Original Foundation: Bare or Barely There?

This product is one of the most loved foundations out right now. If you were to look it up on YouTube you’d find most reviews are raving about it. With all the chatter surrounding it, I thought receiving it as a sample with my last Sephora order was the perfect way to try it out for you guys. As you may know, before I review anything on this blog, I like to go over a few quick facts about the brand:

  1. The brand has been going strong for over 35 years! Clearly they’re doing something right!
  2. They have a very active blog. I personally love it when beauty brands do this.
  3. They are Very serious about business ethics and human rights.Click here to learn more.

Now let’s get down to business. I’ll admit all of the favorable reviews had me coming into this with the solid belief I would absolutely fall in love. Unfortunately, that just wasn’t the case. Yes, the foundation blended seamlessly into my skin. It blended so well that I wound up convinced I wasn’t doing it right.

I know you can’t really tell but, the left side of my face had the foundation on it. There doesn’t seem to be Any sort of noticeable difference.

Another thing I didn’t love was the fact that I used so much product! I know it was just a sample but I can’t help wondering if I’d do the same thing with the full size.

After all was said and done I wound up feeling pretty indifferent. It was like my skin, only slightly less textured and I’m not exactly sure what the point of that would be for me.

It’s a shame. I just really wanted to like this foundation. Maybe I’m not doing something right. If you have any thoughts or suggestions please let me know. I’m not quite ready to give up on this yet. Have you ever fallen for an over hyped product?

Walmart Beauty Box: Spring 2017 – Full of Surprises?

Hmm, this box was just about all misses for me, but before we get into that, here are a few quick facts about the Walmart Beauty Box:

  1. This box is free. Walmart claims the $5.00 you pay is only a flat rate for shipping.
  2. As of right now the box is seasonal (there’s one for each season).
  3. There are usually a large variation of boxes each season. That means any spoilers you find might not necessarily reflect your actual box.

Now let’s get into it.

*cute enough right?

I wasn’t particularly blown away with this box. Nothing really seemed to stand out to me as interesting. Somehow I wound up more shocked after trying these items than I was after opening the box.

Palmer’s Coconut Oil Facial Moisturizer and Facial Oil

One of these things was a hit and the other a definite miss!  I used the facial oil as apart of my skin prepping routine before applying makeup. Instead of using hydrocortisone as a moisturizer (it moisturizes skin and can help soothe redness without clogging pores), I used the facial oil instead. It worked out pretty well! It left my skin with a nice glow.

*the deer in headlights look is all the rage

The facial moisturizer however, did exactly what I was expecting it Not to do. I used as a part of my morning skin routine (again in place of hydrocortisone). It clogged my pores and left my skin looking more inflamed!  *talk about over it!

The Gliss Shampoo and Conditioner were nothing special. The only interesting thing about them was the packaging. Their dispensers are shaped in a way to give you the perfect squeeze every time. That means less mess which I have to admit I’m fond of.

Maybe I’m not the best person to test out John Frieda’s Frizz Ease Conditioner. My hair is always frizzy! That’s it’s natural state! A kinky ball of fuzz! I honestly didn’t notice any difference.

I never tested this product out. As a black woman I knew it wasn’t for me. It’s a little weird to find something for specific skin tones in a box that doesn’t even let you fill out a profile. Definite miss because I’m already golden. I was born that way.

Now this was a trip! Here we go again with the obvious assumption that only one kind of person receives this box. I Knew this wasn’t gonna be my shade, but I tried it anyway so I could review it for you. My thoughts on this aren’t based on shade, they’re based on the actual quality of the product.

It’s clearly a thick mousse texture. It says it’s lightweight but that’s certainly untrue.

I applied it like I normally do.

From far away it looked great! Excusing the clear shade mismatch it was a nice full coverage and looked almost airbrushed.

*again we’re ignoring the fact that this is Not my shade.

Close up was a different story. You could see streak marks from my foundation brush. It sits and anything you put on it will just move the foundation around causing it to get patchier and streakier. This is one you have to work quickly with. Apply it, blend it, ( probably with a beauty blender since it’s so thick it just rests on top of brush bristles) and be done. Maybe don’t touch your face either because something tells me the oil in your finger will cause this to slide around.

This was a definite win!! I loved this. When I first saw it I wasn’t interested in it at all, but I’m so glad I gave it a try. This is perfect for a morning skin routine. It smells of grapefruit (citrus, and earthy smells are my favorite) and it feels so minty and cool. This definitely wakes me up in the morning. Plus, it’s actually pretty great for your skin!

All in all this box was a no go. If it weren’t for the Bioré I’d probably have nothing nice to say about this box at all. Perhaps next season will be better.

Good4You Plant Makeup Hibiscus Blush Powder

Plant Makeup is an all natural cosmetics and skin care brand. Here are a few quick points about the brand.

  • They  create their products using flowers and herbs.
  •  The line of beauty products began as a line of herbal teas!
  • All of their products are cruelty free.

Now on to business. I purchased the blush in hibiscus because I thought the color would be the right amount of rosy for me. I tend to lean more towards rosy and peachy tinted blushes.

The price of it is $20.00 but at the time that I purchased it, there was a coupon code so with shipping I only paid $19.00.

*How cute is that coupon code?!!!

Processing and shipping took about five days, even with the insane weather we had here in Atlanta.

To be quite frank, the swatches I did when I received it left me unimpressed. It Was stated on the website that the blush is more soft and gentle so I wasn’t particularly expecting the most pigment in the world, but it came off as kind of ‘meh’.

I decided however, to really give it a chance. In my experience, swatches can sometimes tell a different story than actually using the product. So I couldn’t really judge the quality of it on swatches alone, and I’m Really glad I didn’t.

On the left side of my face I applied the blush with a powder poof, and I used a brush on the right side. It turned out great! It added the perfect amount of rosiness and my cheeks looked flushed, just how I like it.

As far as application, there wasn’t much of a difference, though I did prefer the powder poof side. If you choose to use a brush, be sure to tap off the excess!

I have to say I was really pleasantly surprised and it’s certainly become one of my favorite blushes. I like it so much that I think I’m going to collect them all! Here’s the link to the Hibiscus Blush!

*At the time of this posting the blush was sold out, and it doesn’t look like it’ll be restocked until June because they’re moving. Lots of other blushes are still in stock though, and trust me, Hibiscus is definitely worth the wait!

On that note, may your makeup be flawless and your cheeks be flushed.
